Expert Learner Quality Mascots- Meeting this Friday

Hi all,

We’re looking forward to seeing all SRC reps at the meeting this Friday at 2.00pm.  We will be looking at the entries for our Expert Learner Quality Mascot competition.

We have had a great response so far, but we are still looking for entries for our mascots for Reflective (Austin’s butterfly – a butterfly) and Independent (Matilda).

We will also be previewing the progress of our Mascot movie that Jed and Kern are working hard on.

We’re looking forward to seeing you all there!

Final Mascot Nomination – Indpendent

At our meeting last Friday the SRC voted and agree that Roald Dahl’s character Matilda was a fantastic mascot for Independent.

Please watch the clip below and let us know if you think Matilda should be our last mascot.  (If the clip doesn’t work, there is a copy on the S:/Store/SRC).

Could your class also provide some feedback about the disco, and in particular ticket sales and the DJ we used.

Don’t forget CRAZY HAIR DAY is this Friday.  We’re looking forward to having Rachel from the Leukemia foundation speak to us at assembly this week about how our donations will help others.

See you next term when we launch our Expert Learner Mascot art competition!

Meeting Week 5 – Things you need to know and vote on!

Classes have voted so meet our new mascot for the Expert Learner Quality RISK TAKER.

DISCO

Classes have voted to have tickets sales on the week leading up to the disco AND also on the night.  Instead of issuing tickets, we have decided to keep a checklist of those who have paid.  This will save the environment and time/money with photocopying and make sure everyone who wants to come can.

The SRC has decided there will be 3 discos with the ages as follows:

R-2                   3-5                        6-7

Classes need to vote on TWO (2) flavoured soft drinks to be sold at the discos.  WE STILL NEED A SOLUTION TO THE JUNK FOOD/SUGAR issue.  Classes please post on what you think should happen?  How will we know how much to buy?Should there be a note sent home & parents tell us what they will allow their kids to have? Any other ideas

NEST SWING

The Execs presented a draft of rules for playing on the nest swing.  This will be given to the school’s leadership team meeting to discuss/add to  at their next meeting.

OPEN MINDED MASCOT

Come on CLG – we need you to work like penguins.   Room 8 has suggested the MIND MATTERS open minded image for our mascot but we need other ideas.  What ideas do you have for a mascot?

GOOD BEHAVIOUR AWARDS

The SRC discussed the award and didn’t think the name reflected what the awards are actually for.  Reps voted to change the name to ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AWARDS.  Execs will do up new award templates to go into duty bags over the next couple of weeks.

CRAZY HAIR DAY FOR THE LEUKEMIA FOUNDATION

Reps voted to make 2 posters/class to promote our Fundraiser on the last day of term.  We will be holding Crazy Hair Day on FRIDAY 8th JULY.  GOLD COIN DONATION.  WEAR YOUR HAIR CRAZY!

SRC LETTER BOXES

They will be out into ALL the school buildings by the end of next week!

Meeting 1, Term 2 – VOTE NOW & INFORMATION!

The following ideas/things need to be voted on by your class.

Expert Learner Quality – Risk Taker:  Mr Norman’s class nominated another mascot.  Should the risk taker be Blue from Rio, or Room 16’s risk-taking mouse nomination?  Vote in the comments below.

Can your class suggest mascots for OPEN MINDED and COMMUNICATOR BEFORE the next meeting in Week 5…?

Discussion – Discos are scheduled for Week 9.  Your Rep has a list of points to discuss about ticket sales and options – how are we going to do it, should you have to pay for food and drink before the day, should you be able to buy tickets on the day?  Please vote and bring back your class’s suggestions ready for the next meeting, or add your thoughts below.  (See minutes for extra details)

SRC boxes will be placed in all buildings so that if classes don’t have meetings, kids can still have a say.  They will be collected by the Execs and added to the Agenda if suitable.  Please talk about NOT putting SILLY comments in.

Positive Yard Behaviours – These slips are taken to the office.  The Execs will now collect them once a fortnight and write a newsletter article to acknowledge those kids who have been given a slip.

Pet Day – Laura B said that her class were wanting to have a pet day week one term where all the kids get to bring their pets.  Please discuss with your class and either comment below or report back at the next meeting.

If anyone wants to see the movie Jed and Kern made of Mrs Woollard’s retirement, go to S:/Store drive, then open the folder called Retirement Photos and you’ll find it in there.

Surprise!

Guard of Honour for Mrs Woollard

What a fabulous afternoon we all had yesterday throwing Mrs Woollard a surprise retirement party.  Our students wanted to do something special, so the SRC brainstormed ideas, classes voted on what to do and then the SRC worked hard to co-ordinate a WHOLE SCHOOL event.

We managed to trick Mrs Woollard by staging a whole school emergency evacuation, then Mr Hunt counted down from 5 and we all yelled “SURPRISE”.  Mrs Woollard was very surprised.  The whole school then moved to the big shady tree where the Execs made a speech, the choir sang a song chosen by the Execs (thanks Mrs Woodlands for your fabulous support and work once again) and then classes presented Mrs Woollard with cards and flowers.

To finish off we made a guard of honour from the shady tree to the front office.

The students have appreciated and valued all the hard work and wonderful changes Mrs Woollard has made to our school… And the Year 7 student executives worked hard using the expert learner qualities of teamwork, active thinking, organisation and persistence to make it happen.  Well done to our Year 7 leaders on a fantastic effort leading the school – and look out Malcolm Turnbull, you may have some competition! 🙂

What a term! What a team!

Our SRC has worked extremely well as an effective penguin team this term!  We have achieved much success in deciding on the mascots for our Expert Learner Qualities…

We work as a team likPicMonkey Collage - expert learner qualitiese the Penguins

We are active thinkers like the Crow

We are resilient like Ormie – we never give up!

We’re organised like the Chipmunks….

We are supporting these three charities and will be organising the following fundraisers throughout the year:

  • Dress up as an animal for the RSPCA
  • Crazy Hair Day for the Leukaemia Foundation
  • Pyjama Day for the Cancer Council.

We have voted to spend the enterprise day money on transforming the existing teacher library into a kitchen & science area (when all the teacher resources have been moved out).

We’ve achieved a lot in one term, imagine what we can do in the next three working together as a team!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS – SEE YOU ALL NEXT TERM 🙂

It’s not too late to have your say. Vote now!

Make sure your voice is heard!  If your class wants to be heard, please make sure you vote on the following items by this Friday

  • Organised mascot : Squirrels V Chipmunks
  • Enterprise Day fundraising spending
  • Risk Taker Mascot : Rio or does your class have another idea?  If you do, you need to supply the links to the clip to Simone or the SRC Execs by THURSDAY this week.  If we don’t have a clip, we won’t be able to vote on your mascot ideas 🙁
  • Cancer Council Fundraising

Vote Now – Expert Learner Quality RISK TAKER

We’ve done most of the work so far to find mascots for our expert learner qualities.  We’ve found this clip of Rio taking a risk and think he would make a great mascot.  Can your class think of another mascot to represent a Risk Taker?  Either vote for Rio in the comments or share a clip or mascot idea… It’s time to work as a whole school team to find the rest of the mascots!
